Weekly derivatives recap: liquidations and funding

The supplied NexuAlpha snapshots show substantial short liquidations alongside positive funding for BTC and ETH. The liquidation page was updated on 2026-10-20 at 04:41 SGT; the funding page was updated at 04:31 SGT. This weekly recap uses those snapshots and the daily history displayed with them. They do not provide a completed weekly aggregate or a weekly funding history, so the figures below retain their original observation windows.

Short liquidations dominate the rolling daily snapshot

The latest 24-hour liquidation total was $1.68B across 145500 orders. Long liquidations accounted for $529M, while short liquidations reached $1.15B. The displayed directional shares were 32% for longs and 68% for shorts. These figures describe forced position closures observed on Binance and OKX, rather than a total for the entire derivatives market.

The shorter windows had a different directional balance. Over the last four hours, liquidations totaled $20.1M across 5508 orders, including $11.9M in longs and $8.15M in shorts. The last hour showed $1.01M across 717 orders, split between $549K in longs and $460K in shorts. Long liquidations therefore exceeded short liquidations in those shorter windows, even though shorts dominated the rolling daily view.

The largest single liquidation displayed for the 24-hour window was an ETH short on Binance worth $11,805,738. The detailed entry dated that event to 2026-10-19 at 09:21 SGT. A single event and an aggregate total describe different aspects of liquidation activity; neither supplies a complete account of market positioning.

Daily history adds context, with coverage limits

The daily series showed $354M on 2026-10-14, followed by $42.7M on 2026-10-15, $20.7M on 2026-10-16 and $11.6M on 2026-10-17. Totals then reached $266M on 2026-10-18 and $262M on 2026-10-19. The latter entry was marked as today so far, and the page warned that its current daily bar covered only collected UTC hours.

Although the history panel was labeled last 30 days, it explicitly reported 10 days of history, counting since 2026-10-10. Its daily bars sum hourly snapshots over UTC days, whereas the headline uses a rolling 24-hour window. These are distinct measurements and should remain separate. The NexuAlpha liquidations page also describes the observations as a lower bound: Binance supplies at most one order per symbol per second, while the OKX endpoint covers BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP and DOGE.

Funding shows differences across contracts

BTC funding was +0.0100% per period on both venues. ETH showed +0.0090% on Binance and +0.0091% on OKX. SOL displayed +0.0100% and +0.0089%, respectively, while XRP showed +0.0078% and +0.0100%. Positive funding means longs pay shorts; negative funding reverses that payment direction.

Negative readings included CL at −0.0037% on Binance and −0.0070% on OKX, and NEAR at −0.0044% and −0.0017%, respectively. The NexuAlpha funding rates page explains that venue differences reflect separate order books, indexes, interest components, caps and sometimes settlement intervals.

Reading the datasets together

Funding measures periodic payments between perpetual-contract holders; liquidation data records forced closures when margin falls below maintenance requirements. The annualized funding estimates assume the current rate repeats and serve as comparison aids, not forecasts or expected returns. These snapshots document different mechanisms and observation windows, without establishing a future price direction.

Figures come from NexuAlpha public data pages at time of writing.
